There is so much misunderstanding when we read about Satan, the Devil and Lucifer. We have been taught that these are different names for the same individual or entity. From our last study we saw that Lucifer was none other than Adam who was created a perfect being until iniquity was found in him. The question here is who or what is Satan? The word Satan appears first in the book of Numbers 22:22 and is translated as adversary. It is also seen in Job and translated Satan. These are the only two instances where Satan is portrayed as an obedient servant of God and this is against what Christendom teaches.

In the Hebrew language Satan is never described as a particular person. Satan is always seen as an adversary. The scripture also reveal that God is even an adversary and the same word is also used. The corresponding Greek word for adversary is diabolos meaning one who is thrown across ones path to test one. The word devil is used interchangeably with Satan and is based on Revelation 12:9, And the great dragon was cast out, the old serpent, called the devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Herein lays a great misconception among Christendom. Most biblical theologians believe the devil was good at one time and then he fell from grace. This concept is based on Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28. However Jesus clearly states that the devil was evil from the beginning.

Satan is called that old serpent; the word old is taken from the Greek word archaios which means original and comes from the root archomai which means to commence in order of time. So we can see that Satan is that old serpent, the original serpent from the beginning, which existed as a serpent from the beginning of time. The Amplified Bible says, And he gripped and overpowered the dragon, that old serpent of primeval times, who is the devil and Satan. It is taught by Christendom that that Satan used the serpent in the Garden of Eden to tempt Eve. Many believed what is taught to them is the word of God and believes it without studying the word for themselves, and so it is as Jesus say they are blind leaders of the blind eventually they will both fall in a ditch. The bible says that the original serpent is the devil and Satan is that original serpent. Satan or the devil is not a person or creature with a pitchfork in his hand that is an image conjured up by the carnal mind of man to scare the people of God into believing what they are taught.

The book of Genesis 3:1 tells us the serpent was more subtle than any beast which the LORD GOD (Jehovah Elohim and not Elohim) had made. This verse is filled with an awesome revelation but only the spiritual mind will see the truth of what is spoken here. Jehovah Elohim is the man created in Genesis 1:26 and Genesis 2:7 and the nature of the serpent are beastly. The serpent was formed in the carnal mind of man. Paul tells us the carnal mind is enmity against God. It is only as we begin to function from the mind of Christ we behold Satan fall from heaven (our mind/consciousness) as a lightening.

When Jesus told the Jews they are of their father the devil, he was a murderer and a liar from the beginning. He was simply speaking of the mind of man operating independently of the Christ consciousness. It was the serpent or carnal mind that convinced Eve she could be just like God, and God knows that in the day you eat of the fruit you will not die but the eyes of your understanding will be open and you will be as he knowing good and evil. Adam and Eve came found out the carnal mind did deceive them as they partook of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil they died that day. Paul tells us about the subtilty of the carnal mind, I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ (2 Corinthians 11:3).

In conclusion I would like to add that whoever or whatever Satan is he or it was destroyed 2000 years ago on the cross and that is the end of the matter. However if he is still alive he is alive only to those who believe, Jesus said, All things are possible to him that believe.

Namaste,
